PHOENIX - The PHX Sky Train will open in 2013 and provide a link between the light rail stop at 44th Street, the East Economy lot and Terminal 4. Future expansion will take the Sky Train to the other terminals and rental car lot.

The cost of stage one is $330 million and is employing nearly 6,000. None of the project is paid for by local tax dollars, but airport revenue.

The PHX Sky Train will be free to ride.

Explanation from Phoenix Sky Harbor on the 44th Street Station Walkthrough Animation:

- At the beginning of the animation, we provide an overhead view of the southwest corner of 44th Street and Washington, where the PHX Sky Train will connect with METRO light rail

- As the animation begins, you will see the METRO light rail train stopped at the 44th Street and Washington Station. You will also see an escalator and elevators next to the METRO train, which will transport riders to up to a pedestrian bridge.

- That bridge will provide a safe, convenient way for pedestrians to cross over the top of Washington Street. As you see in the animation, moving walkways will be provided for speed and convenience.

- Another set of escalators and elevators will take visitors up to the PHX Sky Train platform, where they will board the train.
