GLENDALE - A science teacher and assistant wrestling coach at a Glendale high school has resigned amid a sex scandal.

Matt Spencer, 38, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 19-year-old male student at Mountain Ridge High School.

The school district put Spencer on leave after finding out about the alleged relationship. Spencer resigned two days later. Sandi Hicks, a spokesperson for the school district, says, “I mean, it's unprofessional conduct and we don't have any tolerance for, you know, trying to get around it."

Tim Small, a student, adds, "I love Mr. Spencer. He's a really cool guy and, you know, what he does on his own time that's his business."

A spokesperson for the school district says Spencer actually met the student on the social networking website Facebook first. The young man is about to graduate.

Spencer had worked at the school since 1998.
