Teen girl and boyfriend found dead after fight at Phoenix complex

PHOENIX - A teenage girl and her boyfriend were found dead after a fight.

Homicide detectives interviewed witnesses at an apartment complex near 27th Avenue and Indian School in Phoenix. They say the fatal stabbing began as a fight over money involving a 17-year-old girl and her 20 to 25-year-old boyfriend.

On Friday evening police say the man attacked his girlfriend with a knife. A friend went to call police but by the time officers arrived on scene they found the girl dead and the man with stab wounds. He later died at the hospital.

Homicide detectives tell 3TV they are not sure if this was a murder suicide or a double murder.

Sgt. Eric Mumley, with the Phoenix Police Department, tells 3TV, "She may have used a knife or some kind of cutting implement and tried to defend herself and again, it's not out of the realm, that after he stabbed her maybe he felt I shouldn't say remorse, but decided to take his own life."

3TV has learned the murdered teen girl was a refugee from southeast Asia. She had just moved to the Valley a couple of years ago.

As of Friday night, police were trying to locate her American foster parents.
