Man injured after losing control of SUV, plowing into treePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A serious early morning wreck closed a portion of Seventh Avenue just south of Bethany Home Road Friday.
It happened at about 4 a.m. An SUV slammed into a tree in the front yard of a home on the corner of Seventh Avenue.
The driver, who was on his way to work at the time, had to be cut out of the vehicle. He reportedly was awake and talking when he was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. At last check, he was in serious condition.
It's not yet clear what caused the driver to lose control of the SUV, but rescuers on the scene said there were no apparent signs that alcohol was a factor.
The wreck was cleared and Seventh Avenue reopened to traffic by 6 a.m.
The homeowner said this is not the first time an accident like this has happened. She said a vehicle plowed into her carport three years ago.
