Many students fight for Dream Act to pass in spite of risksPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Across the country Thursday people gathered to talk about a push for the Dream Act.
In Los Angeles, dozens gathered in the street in front of a federal building bringing traffic to a standstill.
Nine people were arrested.
The demonstrators were calling on the United States Congress to pass the Dream Act, which would provide students who were illegally brought to the United States before the age of 16 a path to residency.
That was what some people in Phoenix were also asking for. “The only difference between a citizen and an immigrant student is a piece of paper,” says one student.
The Dream Act Coalition is working to get Congress to pass the bill by June 15.
