PHOENIX - The search continues for three people who led a Department of Public Safety officer on a high-speed pursuit before bailing out into the desert near highway 85 and Southern.

The DPS SWAT team, sheriff's deputies and Buckeye police searched the area for hours on Monday.

One person, a teen boy, has already been taken into custody as has the pick-up truck which had been stolen.

DPS spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jex tells 3TV this situation is not uncommon. “They backpack the drugs over the border and then they steal these pick-up trucks. They use the stolen pick-up trucks to facilitate bringing the drugs back up to the Phoenix area.”

Officers also uncovered a large amount of marijuana found in bundles. They believe the suspects smuggled it across the border.

Officers believe the suspects may be armed with a 9mm gun that was in the stolen pick-up truck.
