PHOENIX – Fire crews were called out to a massive fire at a scrap yard Friday afternoon.
The blaze broke out at a metal scrap yard near 35th Avenue just north of Broadway. Firefighters received a call reporting the fire at about 3:30 p.m., according to Phoenix Fire Capt. Scott Walker.
The fire at the recycling facility engulfed what Walker describes as a 40-foot by 40-foot pile of scrap. Fire crews responded quickly to the scene and were able to contain the flames.
Capt. Walker says no other structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. Crews are also in contact with Air Quality Control to make sure the residents in the area are not at risk.
