Border crossing vigil and SB 1070 protestPosted: Updated:
Every week for the last 10 years a group gathers at El Tiradito shrine to remember immigrants who've died crossing the border.
With the recent ethnic studies ban passed in the legislature, this week's shrine had new meaning. More people were there Thursday night to light candles, pray, and announce upcoming protests.
Next Thursday marks the 10 year anniversary of the gatherings.
And a surprise protest Thursday in Phoenix at a gathering of attorneys from across the country. Opponents of Arizona's new immigration law infiltrated the conference by dressing the part, wearing suits and carrying brief cases.
No one noticed anything unusual until the protesters sprung into action.
