PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix fire crews quickly put out an early afternoon apartment fire in Phoenix Monday.

While conducting a search, crews found a body inside the apartment near Seventh Avenue and Osborn Road.

There is no word on the age or if the person was male or female as the investigation is just getting under way. The fire and police departments are investigating the cause of the fire.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Capt. Tony Mure said the fire department received multiple 911 calls a little after noon reporting heavy smoke and flames coming from a third-floor residence at the El Cortez apartments. Only a few people living on the third floor were home at the time of the fire.

Mure said some residents are displaced and several units are going to have water, smoke and fire damage.
