Greg Lucero, SCC Manager, says a community college “request” is on the May 18 special election ballot in Santa Cruz County. He says right now, over 1.4-million dollars is spent on local students who attend community colleges in other counties. He says with a college district in place, that money would remain in SCC. Lucero says the voters are asked to approve a 7-percent property tax increase but County Supervisors will reduce the primary property tax rate by 7-percent.
