PHOENIX – Three men are in jail for a deadly act of revenge.

Police say they slit a man’s throat before setting his house on fire because they believe he had sex with one of their mothers just before Mother's Day.

Police say the call came out as one for a house fire near 35th Avenue and Baseline on Wednesday.

"It was a bad scene,” says Casey Grantham, a neighbor.

By Sunday, the house had become a murder scene after the person living inside the house was found dead.

Three young men, 19-year-old Matthew Moreno, 23-year-old Booz Moreno and 20-year-old Adan Gonzalez, are now behind bars. Police reports say the suspects believed the victim was having an affair with Gonzalez's mother.

When the fire first broke out, neighbors say they worried she was inside. Grantham says, “We thought maybe was the woman in the house?  And, they said there was only one person in the house and after talking to friends and things like that that came, nobody knew about her, but she was there all the time, so we kind of figured that something maybe was going on."

Police reports say they used a shotgun and a steel pipe to beat the victim over the head before slitting his throat and trying to burn the evidence with fire and gasoline.

Grantham says the families involved knew each other and her family knew Gonzalez. "Any time somebody that young is involved in a crime like that and they've just thrown their whole life away and then when you know that they were really nice, clean cut kid that wasn't into any problems, you know, it's sad."

Investigators say all three men have admitted to the killing.
