MESA - A woman died after the car she was riding in collided with a Mesa police vehicle.
Just before midnight on Saturday, a Mesa patrol officer in a marked vehicle was driving northbound on Crismon Road approaching the underpass of the U.S. 60 when another car traveling southbound in the left-hand turn lane failed to yield to oncoming traffic and turned in front of the patrol car.
The patrol vehicle struck the passenger side of the car and both vehicles traveled off the roadway.
The officer was transported to Desert Vista Hospital for neck pain and bruising on the right side of his face. He was treated and later released.
The driver of the car, Deborah Cowley, 58, was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn for non-life threatening injuries. Her mother, Maxine King, 81, was in the passenger seat and had to be cut out of the vehicle. She was transported to Desert Vista Hospital and was later pronounced dead from severe body and head injuries.
Cowley was not found to be impaired.
