$10K reward offered for arrests of big-horn sheep killersPosted: Updated:
APACHE JUNCTION - Desert bighorn sheep were killed by poachers at a popular recreation spot.
The animals were illegally killed at Canyon Lake northeast of Apache Junction.
A spokesperson with the Game and Fish Department says the herd at the lake was re-located there in 1995 from one side to the other.
The crew of a tour boat spotted the carcasses of the two slaughtered sheep. The captain says desert bighorns are one of the area's main attractions. "It's just really shocking number 1 and it's just really sad. We use the desert bighorn sheep for educational purposes. We have people old and young come out to look for the desert bighorn sheep."
The Game and Fish Department is offering a reward of up to $10,000 to catch those responsible for the sheep’s killings.
