Suspect arrested after woman finds body in her Phoenix apartmentPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A suspect is in custody after a homicide in Phoenix last week.
On April 27, Phoenix police officers responded to an apartment complex near 23rd Avenue and Indian School Road after a woman returned home from work and found a body lying on the floor.
Phoenix Fire paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead. He has been identified as Micah Hughes.
The 23-year-old resident told police officers that she had returned home at approximately noon and made the discovery. According to Detective James Holmes with the Phoenix Police Department, the woman said she did not know the victim and had no idea how he came to be inside her home.
Detectives interviewed neighbors, re-interviewed the witness and learned there had been three male suspects in the home at the time of the homicide. Two of the suspects were detained and interviewed. Detectives gained further evidence that the person responsible for the murder was Eliseo Marquez, 32.
At approximately 10 p.m. Friday, Phoenix police received an anonymous tip that Marquez had been seen in the area of 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road. Officers arrived and took Marquez into custody without incident. He was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.
A clear motive for the homicide has not been determined, but detectives did learn there was an altercation between the victim and the suspect.
Holmes said it is not clear exactly what time the murder occurred.
