Police investigating after white powder found at Tempe hospitalPosted: Updated:
TEMPE -- Tempe police and fire officials are investigating after a white powder was discovered at St. Luke's Hospital three different times.
Tempe police and fire departments responded to the hospital at Mill Avenue and Broadway Road after a white powdery substance was located shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday. The powder reportedly was found inside a hanging folder on an office door.
According to Tempe police Sgt. Steve Carbajal, the Tempe Fire hazardous materials team determined the powder to be a sugar-based substance and it was not believed to be a threat.
Police and fire personnel returned to the hospital Monday at approximately 6:30 a.m. after an envelope containing white powder was found under the door of an administrator's office. It was again identified as a sugar-based substance.
While investigating Monday's incident, Tempe police officers found white powder in a third location in the hospital.
There were no evacuations at the hospital.
The investigation continues.
