Drug deal gone bad ends with man dead; 2 suspects at largePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – One person is dead after a drug-related shooting in Phoenix, police say.
The fatal shooting took place Friday at around 3 p.m. in the area of 16th Street and Hidalgo.
Police say two Hispanic males met with two African-American males in the carport of a vacant house. The group was reportedly by an open trunk of a car inside the carport when an argument ensued and gunshots were fired.
Rosemary Lopez, a neighbor, tells 3TV, "It was like a big bang bang bang-type deal, you know, seven to 10 shots. It was pretty loud."
Detectives say it appears like a drug deal gone bad. Police found about 120 pounds of what they believe is marijuana in the trunk of the car.
A 22-year-old Hispanic man died and a second individual who was shot was taken to a local hospital and will face charges when released.
Police are asking for the public's help in locating either of the two outstanding suspects. If you have any information on this case or their whereabouts you are asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS.
