Firefighters preparing for a bad fire seasonPosted: Updated:
Thanks to a wet winter, we could be on the brink of a massive fire season here in the desert.
The hot shot crew at Northwestern Fire District is gearing up for a nasty fire season. They're preparing, and they want homeowners to do so as well.
Firefighters say this year that 30-feet of defensible space is more important than ever. A very wet winter has left our desert looking like an oasis.
But in a few weeks when much of the new growth dries out it will provide fuel for fires.
Firefighters expect the fire season to hit in May and last until the monsoon. Until then, crews are working to get ahead of mother nature, but they need a little help.
