High School sports changesPosted: Updated:
A new plan to try to save schools and districts money is about to change high school sports. The Arizona interscholastic association plans on streamlining divisions and travel.
That means a re-classification of every high school into a division based on its size it would also limit the number of state championships offered in each sport. Under the new plan football would be split into six divisions; basketball, baseball, softball and soccer into four; and tennis, three divisions. The old system had 114 state team championships. The new plan would offer just 67 if the executive board passes the proposal next month.
