PHOENIX -- Law enforcement officials busted a suspected drop house in west Phoenix Thursday afternoon.

According to Officer Robert Bailey with the Department of Public Safety, 12 people were found in the house near 87th Drive and Palm Lane.

Authorities found nine undocumented immigrants and took three suspected smugglers into custody.

The illegal immigrants reportedly had been held at the home for about a week and some had been beaten. They were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Bailey said the IIMPACT investigation began this week after someone reported a family member had been kidnapped and held for ransom.

IIMPACT is comprised of personnel from DPS, the Phoenix Police Department and ICE.
