Over 21 pounds of cocaine busted at border checkpointPosted: Updated:
TUCSON -- A police dog helped uncover over 21 pounds of cocaine at a traffic checkpoint on I-19 on Thursday.
At about 8:00 a.m. a white sports utility vehicle was stopped at the checkpoint and a border patrol canine alerted its handler to the possible presence of contraband.
After the vehicle was sent to a secondary search area and inspected for anomalies, a canine team helped an officer find 16 bundles of cocaine hidden in the car's door panels.
The cocaine, which was valued at nearly $700,000, was confiscated, and the driver of the vehicle was arrested and turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
