COTTONWOOD - Sheriff's deputies track down suspect who allegedly stole a purse from a running car outside of a home in Cottonwood.
On April 21, 2010, at approximately 5:15 p.m. the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a reported vehicle burglary.
Neighbors told deputies they saw a man and a woman take a purse from the car and walk away. They notified deputies that the suspects were seen trying to hide behind some bushes near Silver Leaf Trail and Diablo Drive. They then spotted the suspects jump over a neighbors back yard fence into a neighbor's yard.
After getting a suspect description from the neighbors police found the suspects at a home nearby.
Korey Leatherwood, 21, and Ianelli Cuellar, 16, both from the Phoenix metro, were taken into custody.
Leatherwood had an outstanding probation violation warrant from Maricopa County. Cuellar was listed as a runway juvenile by the Scottsdale Police Department.
Cuellar admitted to her involvement with Leatherwood in the burglary.
Money in Cuellar's purse was identified as that taken from the victim's purse. Deputies later recovered the victim's purse, wallet and belongings in a nearby wash.
Both suspects were charged with burglary and theft. Leatherwood also faces a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The pair were in the area because Leatherwood has family living on the street.
