Hopefuls line up for Chandler Fire Dept. recruitmentPosted: Updated:
CHANDLER -- People lined up Monday for the chance to possibly join the Chandler Fire Department.
Monday morning's recruitment drive is part of a joint effort by Chandler, Scottsdale and Tempe.
According to Battalion Chief Paul Nies of the Chandler Fire Department, about 50 people even camped out Sunday night to make sure they had places in line.
"We're very impressed by this turnout," he said. "We have a lot of good qualified candidates showing up. That makes it good and bad. It's hard decision when we get down to who's going to be on the team."
While there are no open positions right now, qualified applicants will be placed on eligibility list.
"When we do have opportunities -- and we may have them with some grant opportunities -- but the timeframe we have to react to grant opportunities is so small that having this portion [of the application process] out of the way is very, very critical for us," Nies explained.
