Defrocked priest pleads guilty to assaulting teenPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A former Valley priest pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident involving a teenage boy who was a member of Fushek's Life Teen program in the mid '80s.
Dale Fushek, 57, admitted to touching the genitals of his victim through the victim's clothing.
In 2005, allegations were brought to the attention of the County Attorney's Office involving Fushek and several misdemeanor charges were filed.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the agreement comes after legal rulings that required multiple trials against Fushek for seven misdemeanor charges.
The agreement eliminates the need to subject these victims to a trial. It also required Fushek to admit his guilt.
On Thursday, Fushek pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 364 days of probation. The maximum penalty was 30 days in jail.
Fushek was defrocked in February.
