TUSD non-renewal noticesPosted: Updated:
Hundreds of Tucson teachers and staff members find out they won't have jobs next year.
Under state law, districts must notify teachers by April 15th whether their contract will be renewed.
But Tuesday night the board's main focus was on administrators.
TUSD's governing board was presented with a list of about 60 administrators for non-renewal of contract. All were from under-enrolled schools.
That's on top of about 200 teachers, counselors, and librarians district-wide who were told last week that they wouldn't have jobs at their schools next year as a result of statewide budget cuts.
The district faces a $20 million budget deficit next year, but it could be as high as $41 million if voters reject the 1-cent statewide sales tax in may.
