Scottsdale police arrest suspect linked to three sexual assaults

SCOTTSDALE - Scottsdale police detectives arrested a man in connection with three sexual assaults in 2009 and believe more victims might be involved.

Edvin Mita was arrested on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. by Scottsdale police detectives after they realized he was the suspect in multiple sexual assaults.

They were able to to take him into custody after a traffic stop for speeding near 55th Street and Bell Road.

He was found to be driving while suspended and failed to have an ignition interlock device on the car after a previous DUI conviction.

The three sexual assault occurred as unrelated incidents and different times in 2009.

The first incident occurred on July 26, 2009 after Mita went on a date with the victim, he allegedly broke into the victim's residence and sexually assaulted her. He threatened the victim physically is she spoke to police.

The second assault happened on November 7, 2009 with a woman Mita has been in a six week relationship with. He sexually and physically assaulted her overnight and into the next morning and before leaving threatened her is she spoke to police.

The last incident happened on November 19, 2009 after Mita went on three dates with the third victim. He sexually and physically assaulted her causing permanent hearing damage in one ear.

Mita is in jail being held with no bond while he awaits multiple sexual assault, aggravated assault and kidnapping charges.
