PHOENIX -- If you have any old documents containing personal information, you might want to head to downtown Phoenix for a Shred-a-Thon next week.
The Arizona Attorney General's Office and Assured Security Document Destruction is hosting the free Shred-a-Thon in an effort to prevent identity theft.
The event will be held Friday, April 16, 10 a.m.-noon, at the Wesley Bolin north parking lot at the State Capitol Mall, 1700 W. Washington St., in Phoenix.
Residents are encouraged to bring old bills, tax returns older than seven years, medical records and other documents containing personal identifying information.
These documents will not be shredded on site. All documents will be secured and taken to the Assured Security Shredding plant to be destroyed.
