Arizona lawmaker wants more time for Cubs proposal

PHOENIX -- The Arizona lawmaker sponsoring stalled legislation on financing for a new Chicago Cubs spring training complex in Mesa says he wants more time -- a year -- to work it out.
Republican House Majority Leader John McComish of Phoenix said Thursday that the Cubs and Mesa should extend the deadline for a detailed financing plan into 2011.
The original idea for surcharges on all Arizona spring training game tickets and on Phoenix-area auto rentals drew stiff opposition, and McComish says he and other lawmakers are "running out of time" to come up with alternatives.
The Legislature's 2010 regular session is expected to end in several weeks.
McComish says another complication is that other cities with spring training sites want their needs to be taken into consideration.
