Abandoned puppies left in bag and dumped beat the odds

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Five newborn puppies wrapped in a plastic bag and left for dead in a Tucson alley are beating the odds.

They will soon be ready to join loving homes.

Southern Arizona Humane Society spokeswoman Laura Leon said the puppies, once tossed away like trash, are being nursed back to health.

Due to the investigation, details of where in Tucson they were found are not being released.

Humane Society spokeswoman Sheena Stewart said they hope someone is prosecuted for animal cruelty.

If given a clean bill of health, the puppies will be available for adoption in six weeks.
