CHANDLER -- The Department of Public Safety pulled over two vehicles believed to be carrying undocumented immigrants in Chandler Tuesday morning.

The first stop was on the San Tan Loop 202 at about McClintock.

About a dozen people reportedly bailed out of the vehicle and ran. Officers are looking for those people. The driver, however, is in custody.

The second pickup truck, which had a suspicious license plate, was stopped on the San Tan Loop 202 at Kyrene off-ramp.

At least five men could be seen huddling in the bed of that truck, initially covered by what appeared to be carpet padding. Several more people were in the truck's cab.

DPS said a total of 11 people were taken into custody, including the driver. Those people have been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Investigators said they believe the two vehicles were traveling together.

Details will be updated as they become available.
