COTTONWOOD -- A Cottonwood man was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while sitting in the front yard of a home.

According to Dwight D'Evelyn with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, a 17-year-old boy lost control of his 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse as he entered his driveway at approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

D'Evelyn said the vehicle continued through a hedge into the adjacent yard where John Uidenich, 58, was sitting in a chair at his relative's home. The car then dropped about 3 feet and landed on Uidenich, trapping him underneath.

The vehicle continued traveling through a chain-link fence, striking another car which then struck a minivan in the same yard. Uidenich remained trapped under the vehicle and died at the scene.

Deputies interviewed the driver and next-door neighbor. D'Evelyn said initial reports indicated no evidence of alcohol or drug influence involving the teen. The driver submitted to a blood test and results are pending.

The driver discussed an issue of equipment failure with his vehicle and the allegation is currently under investigation. The teen’s vehicle was impounded for further investigation into the alleged mechanical issues.

At this time, no charges have been filed pending results of the investigation.
