Teen killed trying to break up party in MesaPosted: Updated:
MESA -- A teen was killed after he tried to break up a party that got out of control in Mesa early Sunday morning.
Mesa police officers were called out to a shooting at a home near Mesa Drive and McKellips Road at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing, a 16-year-old girl was having a party and the numbers grew out of control. She called her 24-year-old aunt and asked her to come over and help break up the party.
The aunt and an 18-year-old male drove to the residence and began telling people to leave.
Wessing said a fight broke out on the front lawn between the teen and a partygoer. An unidentified male shot the teen once from behind. He was pronounced dead during transport to a Scottsdale hospital.
There is no suspect information at this time.
