Phoenix woman gets 37 years for death of infant sonPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A woman has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for the death of her infant son.
In April 2007, the body of a 4-month-old was discovered by Phoenix police officers. The child's body weighed 4.5 pounds.
Police said the victim was malnourished and the medical examiner listed the cause of death as consistent with neglect.
Katherine Hatten, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse in November.
Michael Anthony Scerbo with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said Hatten was sentenced to 37 years in prison on Monday.
The child's father, Thaddeus Bechtel, 32, is serving a 22-year prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of two counts of child abuse.
