PHOENIX -- Phoenix police officers took a couple into custody after the woman's estranged husband was shot Saturday night.
According to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a 22-year-old man was shot in the back near 36th Street and Thomas Road shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Patrol officers in the area heard several shots and saw a man running for a parked blue Suburban. Officers detained the driver, Flore Moreno, 22, and Vincent Qhihuis, 23, who had attempted to hide under the vehicle.
Moreno is the victim's soon-to-be ex-wife and Qhihuis is her boyfriend.
Thompson said while Qhihuis was under the vehicle, he reportedly hid a pair of latex gloves and a 9mm handgun.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized and is expected to be OK.
According to Thompson, Moreno and her husband are going through a problematic divorce and custody battle.
Thompson said Qhihuis and Moreno admitted to the aggravated assault and facilitation of that crime. Both were booked into the Maricopa County Jail.
