SURPRISE -- The president of a Parent Teachers Association in Surprise has been arrested for allegedly taking money from the group's account for personal use.
According to the Surprise Police Department, Parkview Elementary PTA staff noticed that more than $3,000 in PTA funds was unaccounted for prior to a PTA event.
Surprise police Sgt. Mark Ortega said account information revealed that Teresa Diaz, 38, the serving president of the PTA, had taken the money for her personal use.
Ortega said when police officers questioned Diaz on Wednesday, she admitted that she took the money from the account.
Diaz was arrested and transported to the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail where she was booked on theft charges.
