Medical marijuana and gun law clear state hurdle

Arizona voters may soon get the chance to legalize medical marijuana.  And if they do, The state legislature says the drug will be taxed.

The state senate Thursday passed the proposal by a vote of 17 to 12. It now moves to the house. Backers of medical marijuana currently are seeking signatures for a voter initiative that could make the November ballot. State analysts estimate the tax could generate nearly $1 million annually.

The House took up a measure Thursday that would allow any US citizen 21 or older to carry concealed weapons without a permit in Arizona.

It passed on a voice vote late Thursday afternoon after lawmakers made changes to match the version sitting in the state senate.
