Minutemen standing downPosted: Updated:
The Minutemen Civil Defense Corps is standing down.
The Arizona-based border watch group sent an E-mail this week announcing plans to dissolve as an organization.
Concerns about violence during this year's spring muster reportedly prompted minutemen leadership to disband. They became concerned about their responsibility after receiving a highly enthusiastic response to their invitation for participants to come "locked, loaded and ready" to track and detain illegal immigrants and drug smugglers instead of just reporting sightings to authorities.
Allegations of poor leadership and money mismanagement dogged the corps since its inception in 2005, leading to several changes in leadership and dwindling membership.
