State looking at furloughs and park fundingPosted: Updated:
Arizona's budget trouble means furlough days for state government, six in all, and all on Fridays. Here's a look: July 23rd, August 20th, September 17th, November 26th and December 23rd of this year, plus June 10th 2011. The closures are an alternative to furlough days for individual employees and will help the state cut down on utility costs.
Lawmakers are considering a temporary funding plan that could help keep state parks open. The measure would give drivers the option of donating ten dollars to state parks when they register their car. In exchange, drivers would get a free pass to state parks. This could re-open parks that have been forced to closed down due to budget cuts. The measure would be repealed after three years.
