YUMA -- A Yuma-area mother faces homicide and child negligence charges after her 14-month-old son drowned in a sewage pit last week.

On Wednesday, Yuma County sheriff's deputies responded to a property in reference to a child who had possibly drowned.

Deputies arrived as the boy was being transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and noticed a hand-dug hole that was being used as a cesspool for an RV parked on the property.

According to Capt. Eben Bratcher with the Sheriff's Office, the investigation revealed Aiden Lee Bailey had been left in the yard while his parents were inside the residence.

Bratcher said at some point, Aiden fell into the open pit and drowned. The child was pronounced dead at YRMC after efforts to revive him failed.

The boy's parents were interviewed and the father, Michael Wilson, 20, was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Jail on one count of hindering prosecution.

On Monday, the child's mother, Crystal Bailey, 20, was booked into the Yuma County Jail and is being charged with second-degree homicide and child negligence.
