PHOENIX – A dog had to be rescued from a west Valley sink hole Wednesday night.

The hole was in the backyard of a home near 31st Avenue and McDowell and it was nearly 20 feet deep.

Neighbors heard the dog crying. The fire department managed to get the 50-pound dog, which they said looks like a husky, out safe and sound.

Mike Cruz explains, “When we pulled him out he was excited to get out. Kind of disoriented and we had to keep him from running and falling back into the hole."

Ernesto Arellano admits, “I was scared. I thought the dog was gonna die in there cause I thought he was gonna break something.”

Firefighters put a temporary cover over the sinkhole until the city can get it fixed. The dog has a microchip in its neck so Animal Control knows who it belongs to.
