GOODYEAR -- A fitness center in Goodyear was evacuated and three people were transported to a hospital after a chlorine leak Tuesday morning.

According to the Goodyear Fire Department, three employees at Life Time Fitness at McDowell Road and 145th Avenue were trying to treat the spa area in the pool house when a pipe backed up and chlorine splashed on them.

Battalion Chief Russ Braden said the chemical splashed on two employees' lower extremities and the other employee's facial area was exposed to the chlorine. All three were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

A few visitors complained of throat irritation, but none were transported.

The health club was evacuated while crews evaluated the leak.
