PHOENIX -- A 51-year-old bicyclist was killed after he was hit by a pickup truck at Interstate 17 and Glendale Avenue Monday morning.
According to Phoenix police Detective James Holmes, the man was riding his bike eastbound on Glendale Avenue and was crossing the I-17 access road at approximately 11 a.m.
Holmes said an 83-year-old woman driving a pickup truck attempted to make a right turn from the off-ramp and struck the bike rider.
The signal for north- and southbound traffic was red and the light for east-west traffic was green at the time of the collision. Holmes said witnesses told police that the truck came to a complete stop at the intersection.
Police are not sure where in the road the victim was when he was struck.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
