EL MIRAGE -- Two men were arrested after a teen was punched in the face and robbed at gunpoint in El Mirage Friday night.

A 17-year-old male told police officers that two men in a white SUV had robbed him at gunpoint while he was walking home near Cactus and Dysart roads at approximately 10 p.m. Friday.

The victim said the suspects punched him in the face and pressed a shotgun against his head. They reportedly took his $170 Versace sunglasses then fled in their vehicle.

The victim flagged down a vehicle and followed the SUV to a nearby house and then called police. Gang detectives from the State Gang Task Force (GIITEM) were in the area and contacted the occupants from the SUV while they stood in the front yard of the house.

The GIITEM officers detained Rene Garcia, 25, and Dennis Brooks, 25. A few minutes later, the victim positively identified Brooks and Garcia as the men who robbed and assaulted him.

Garcia and Brooks were arrested and booked into the county jail for armed robbery.

Detectives impounded the SUV and recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and the victim's property.

The victim received only a minor injury to his face from being punched.

The investigation is still ongoing.
