Council to discuss police-councilman incidentPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The alleged rough treatment of a Phoenix City Councilman that included being handcuffed and thrown to the ground by a police officer will be up for discussion Monday morning at City Hall.
Mayor Phil Gordon requested an open meeting of the incident last Friday involving south Phoenix Councilman Michael Johnson.
The council is expected to be briefed on the March 19 incident, receive an update on the current status of the investigation, and listen to comments and input from the public at 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, the police has department launched an internal investigation into the incident.
Police spokesman Trent Crump says the incident occurred as Johnson was checking on neighbors whose south Phoenix home had caught fire.
