Stylish Spring things for less

Posted: Updated:

Spring brings fresh fashions and some styles that return from years before.  As I began to research what's in vogue this sunny season, I noticed that several eras are back.  From the form fitted bright bold colors of the 60's to the 80's romper, there is a look for everyone.  And now that I am a bit older, I also noticed a couple of garment tricks to look for that will flatter your figure.  Read on for examples of these terrific trends and where to get some of these looks for less!

From the 60's:  Bright Bolds
Orange is one color that is a stand-out this season.  Check out the segment to see a 60's photo of Mary Tyler Moore in a classic fit bright orange dress.  I found an almost identical piece at Target for $39.99.  And consider trying target.com for even more styles for less that aren't always found in their stores.  I ordered the fun carrot colored Merona dress online from Target and it got here quickly.  Online purchases can be easily returned in the store as long as you have the receipt.

Flattering Figure Fitted Designer
Another orange style I show is a flattering halter top that won't wrinkle and packs easily for summer travel by Susanna Monaco that sells at The Purple Skirt.  At almost $100, this is higher-priced, but is made to last and lean your middle with the flattering material and the halter that draws everything up, including the eye.  And with the built-in bra, you also get support in the right places. Several reviews tout the Susanna Monaco line as clothing that is made for all different body types.  So, you will pay more for this line, but you will get quality.  I also love the big bold sweet potato shaded flower necklace that I show on this top in the segment.  Flower power shows up in both clothing and in accessories this Spring.

70's Sleek Sleeve
Once called the butterfly sleeve and now called the flutter, this style returns from the 1970s.  To see this flutter studded sleeve blouse, watch the segment.  I also like this sleeve because it gives a little coverage over that upper arm area that makes some of us gals self-conscious and it is feminine with a light flirty feel.  The one shown also comes from the Purple Skirt and sells for $80, but the sleeve can be found at lower-priced stores as well.  Just tell the salesperson that you are looking for the flutter style.

Romp Around in an 80's Classic
Comfortable and versatile, the 80s romper returns for spring and summer.  I love that this all-in-one piece can be worn over a bathing suit or dressed up with a belt, accessories and wedge heels.  Plenty of celebs are embracing the look as well.  Think Katy Perry or check out the photo I show of Nicole Richie and Blake Lively.  I grabbed the one shown in the segment for $79 from Dominique R. located at 15035 Thompson Peak Parkway in Scottsdale.  To finish the look, I paired a silver cuff bracelet with some fun metallic gladiator sandals from Payless ShoeSource that go for only $15 on sale down from the regular price of $22.99, which is still a steal.

And speaking of Payless, check out the shoe store for more than shoes with bright colored purses and attractive accent jewelry in lots of sharp spring colors.  Most sell for under $20 to boot!

Pretty Pastels
Bold blues and that outstanding orange I discussed are all the rage, but pretty pastels, ruffles and flowers bloom with Spring as well.  One of my favorite finds is what The Purple Skirt calls the Dove Dress due to the pretty pink embroidered dove design.  And with the low cut front, place a tube top underneath and the pretty pastel pink tube I show makes the dove design pop.  These style-saving tubes go for only $15 and transforms any outfit from low-cut to conservative in an instant.

Check out the Garden Collection from a boutique called H&M in Scottsdale.  Featured in the pages of this month's In Style Magazine, the vibrant floral designs sell for under $50 and are made with recycled and organic materials.  H&M is located at Scottsdale and Greenway Roads across the street from Kierland Commons.

Look for pastel colors in cosmetics like the sky blue, muted green and pink nail polishes that I purchased from Walgreen's.

Spring Shoe Styles
I was overjoyed to discover that the wedge heel returns as it had all but disappeared last fall!  Comfortable and stylish, wedges this season come in lots of bright colors, too.  Grecian sandals in metallic return as well and can be worn for both a casual or dressy look making this style comfortable and versatile.  Payless also offers several styles of Grecian sandals with studs and stone straps and all sell for under $25 a pair.

So spring into Spring with some seasonal smart shopping that will keep your beauty and life on a budget.  And don’t forget to enjoy these last few days of cool weather because the hot days and hot styles of summer are coming soon.
