Arizona budget-balancing bills on Brewer's deskPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is reviewing 12 bills in a budget-balancing package sent to her after being approved by the Legislature.
Brewer has until Saturday to act on the bills that were approved late last week and sent to her Monday, and her spokesman said she'd likely take several days to review them before acting.
The package was largely modeled on Brewer's own budget proposal and includes $1.2 billion of new spending cuts.
Two final pieces of the package have been passed by the House but still await Senate votes.
One is a referendum on whether to abolish the First Things First childhood program to seize its $325 million.
The other is a bill to eliminate a business tax break to generate $20 million of additional revenue.
