Two Wildcats among honored in first women's basketball awardsPosted: Updated:
For the first time a panel of Pac-10 women's basketball media members who cover the league handed out their own conference awards and a pair of wildcats were in the mix.
Junior forward Ify Ibekwe was named defensive player of the year after leading the wildcats defense which held opponents to 37-8 percent field goal shooting from the floor... Ibekwe is the only Pac-10 player to average a double-double for the season with nearly 14-points and 11-rebounds per game.
Freshman Davellyn Whyte was the Pac-10 freshman of the year. She lead Arizona in scoring with 16-points per game and was the highest scoring freshman in the conference.
Pac-10 awards voted on by the league's coaches will be announced on Wednesday and Thursday.
