Accidental shooting in Chandler leaves 19-year-old deadPosted: Updated:
CHANDLER -- A 19-year-old man died after being accidentally shot at a home near Chandler Boulevard and McClintock Drive in Chandler Saturday afternoon.
According to Chandler police, Mark Martinez was visiting with a friend at the home of Jose Sandoval, who is the friend's uncle.
Chandler police Detective David Ramer said Martinez asked to see Sandoval's gun and Sandoval retrieved it.
After showing it to the younger men, Sandoval, 58, was putting the gun back into the holster when it fired, hitting Martinez in the chest.
Martinez was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injury.
Charges of negligent homicide will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.
