Host Bob Lee interviews Janet Marcotte, Executive Director, and Liz Rabago, Director of Women’s Economic Development, YWCA Tucson.
The YWCA’s annual “Women on the Move” recognition dinner is coming up March 21. It is one of the local organizations biggest fundraisers.Marcotte says Women on the Move was established by the YWCA Tucson to honor women in the community for their outstanding achievements. She says more than 1,160 women have been Women on the Move honorees since this leadership recognition program began in 1982.
Rabago discusses the “Skills for Successful Employment Workshops,” currently offered to Spanish-speakers only. She says the workshops focus on building women’s confidence as well as helping them develop basic skills in career development and job search strategies. She says during this day-long workshop offered on the second Tuesday of each month, participants assess their personal skills, identify their individual interests, learn interviewing skills and develop job search strategies. She says participants are matched with Career Guidance Specialists to receive individual career guidance over a six-month period.
Marcotte says funds raised through the "Women on the Move" dinner help support such YWCA programs as the employment training internships offered through the “YWorks” program. She says participants learn skills essential to success in the workplace and experience being part of a highly effective team. She says the program is designed to address the employment needs of women who are unemployed, underemployed or transitioning in the workforce.
