Tucson SWAT situation ends with injured suspectPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. — A SWAT standoff came to an end Thursday evening on Tucson's east side at the Bellvue Garden Apartments, near Speedway and Wilmot.
Tucson police, SWAT, bomb squad, the Pima County Sheriff's Office, and the US Marshal's Service were all on high alert trying to bring a peaceful end to a dangerous situation. It started Thursday morning with the fugitive strike team staking out a wanted fugitive.
"At 4PM he came out of a residence he attempted to get into his vehicle, they tried to apprehend ran back into the building," reports Deputy Dawn Barkman of the Pima County Sheriff's Office.
According to deputies 37-year-old Fernando Pesqueira is wanted for drug and weapon violations. Police say he fired at them while barricading himself inside an apartment. Officers fired back.
Police confirmed Fernando Pesqueira surrendered and he was wounded. He was been taken to a local hospital.
