ADOT auctioning sedans, pickups and snow plows

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX --Ever think that buying a car or truck would help keep highways clear of snow during the state’s fiscal crisis? Or assist ADOT in fixing pavement damaged by this winter’s severe storms?

The state’s transportation agency, working to overcome legislative cuts to its operating budget as well as declines in revenue, will hold an auction Saturday (March 6) in Phoenix to sell more than 120 fleet vehicles and other ADOT surplus equipment.

The ADOT vehicles, including 56 sedans, 35 pickup trucks and even eight snowplow trucks will be available for inspection from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday (March 3) and Thursday (March 4). Potential bidders are encouraged to stop by on those days to thoroughly inspect the available vehicles.

Other equipment to be auctioned includes 13 vans, five front end loaders, two motor graders and an assortment of older highway equipment such as trailers, mowing tractors, pressure washers and snowplow blades.

“Our public safety mission, including snowplowing and crash response can’t be put on hold,” said ADOT Director John Halikowski. “We committed to removing snow along state highways at previous years’ levels, which meant doing something such as auctioning these vehicles.”
